We went to see my parents today.. At the cemetery. Bryson loves to go and loves to talk to his nana and grandpa Tom... He today he walked around then just sat down in front of a marker. He said "it makes me so sad here. At home I am ok and when I come here I feel weak about Jesus. There's just so many stones here". We talked about it and i tried to answer his questions and we talked at length about going to heaven with Jesus and seeing them again. He seems really to listen and having come there so often... Since he was just 6 months... He has learned to e respectful... About cemeteries.. And while part of that makes me very sad I know my mom, dad, an papaw would be very impressed and proud of him. Bryson.. I am so thankful for you. Ive been having kind of a rough go at life lately here and there and I want you to know that you have been my saving grace over and over again. I hope and pray that we continue with our relationship and you will always talk to me. Your words, as bountiful as they often are, sometimes come at the most needed times and I am thankful for you. We had a really tough time with you and your behaviors around this Christmas time but you have done a complete flip and are like a new child. For which, I am also very very thankful. You and I (with Stacey and Juleanna) are going to Alabama tomorrow to see Mema. You're so excited you can't sleep. You've always had trouble sleeping.. You come by it honestly.. So have I. Anyways.. You had snuck a dr. Seuss book back in the bed tonight and were looking at it w a night light. At 1015 pm. I laid down with you and you started talking about Ben franklin (who is mentioned in the book.. One cent two cent old cent new cent) And how he did "the most awesome kite trick ever". Yes. Yes he did. We talked about it and you hung on every world. You asked me to spell words and let you guess what the word was. Then you wanted them signed to see if you could recognize the letters. You said "I'm getting ready for kindergarten. Let's do some more learning stuff". Granted, it was all in efforts Just to keep me in the bed with you (also what I would do with my parents).. But I was impressed with al you knew. I'm impressed with all you know every. Single. Day. We laid together until about 1035 and I had to go finish packing us up, but you leaned over to me and said, "I love you. And I love you because Jesus gave you to me and you are helpful and nice and loving". I just held you and wanted to keep you right here in that moment forever. I miss my patents sooo much and eventho they didn't blog about it backIn the 70/80's.. I hope that I in some way blessed their hearts the way that you have mine. You. Are. My. Favorite. AND my best. In other news, you had your first all-boy-knee-blowout.

- I said looks like these are goners... You said "no, i think they're suppose to be this way". Well.. Considering some of the ripped up jeans I wear, it's no figure. But.. I paid for em ;) You also did this little impersonation of mommy's "hair towel thingie" today.. Which was funny.

And this past weekend you pretended to be a puppy.. Since obviously you were wearing a puppy hat.

I just want to document that tonight you asked me to take you to the mall.. That you "really love it there.. Just looking around and stuff. And riding the elevator. And eating a cookie". You asked to go tomorrow after school.. And if they were open..after the sun went to bed. I told you that you have a soccer game tomorrow and you perked up and said "hey! I have a great idea! How about we take a bath beeefffoorrre school so after school and soccer we can go to the mall. Because I just love the mall". I just love your problem solving skills when it comes to important things.. Like the mall... And just shoppin' around.. And looking at things like your nana and I used to do.. Quite frequently. :) if only we had all the time in the world to do just that. Your nana would be so very proud.. And part of me is hoping that it's her that's guiding you to help take care of me in ways that only she could :).

Batman conversations

So.. Bryson is obsessed with batman. And daddy equally loves batman. Mommy, obviously the fun Nazi, limits the amount of said batman movies/cartoons because it makes him turn into a crazy person with all the moves, booms, pows, etc. I'm constantly the barer of bad news when I make it go off. Sooo.. Were walking through walmart the other day.. And I get this:

B: mommy. When we get home I need to have a talk to you.

Me: ok.. What about? Can we talk now?

B: no, I said when we get home I need to have a talk to you.

Me: oooookk..

Home....
B: so you remember i need to have a talk to you.

Me: absolutely. What do you want to talk about?

B: you know batman, right?

Me: yes...

B: have you seeeennn the movie?

Me: yes...

B: and with the fighting? You've seen it? Even when you were little?

Me: yes i've watched it.. And yes it had fighting.

B: and you stilllll don't want me to watch it? I promise I won't be more agressive!

Me: when I watched it I was older and knew the difference between what was real and what was play and I don't think you really understand that yet.

B: no I do! I do! I puuhhromise!

Me: remember that head butt this morning when you almost broke my nose and your biggest concern was that you were going to have to start from the beginning of the movie to catch up where I stopped it after you hurt me?? And you told
Me that some character on the movie did head butts that way??

B: yeesss maaamm..

Bryson had a check up this week with dr derrick..all went well.. No cavities.. But he said his permanant teeth are coming in and they are waaayy too big for his mouth and braces seemed
Inevitable and we should sell kidneys now to pay for them in a few years. Well maybe not those words..but close enough.:)

Annndd he even got two prizes from the treasure chest because he was "the last guy"! ;)

Tomorrow is a big day. Your grandma starts chemotherapy tomorrow.. She's already had a single mastecomy and it's been a while since you've been able to go for your regular sleep overs due to grandmas "owies". It will probably be some time before you're able to go back over there, but were gonna do what we can do. Tonight we said a special prayer for grandma. Yours went like this

I used to have a sweet baby boy. When did I get this cool kid that
wants to wear sunglasses on his head and share his new stickers with
the waitstaff at Buffalo Wild Wings? And while we're there, say "hey mom
I'd like to tell the order girl what I want all by myself". If you
were wondering, it went like this.."I'd like the teeny tiny corn dogs
with fruit cup please" :)

Yesterday was Juleanna's 2nd birthday! She's come so far over the past
2 years! Despite some delays in speech, she has made some pretty
remarkable strides! We went and visited yesterday and to check out her
new indoor trampoline.. That takes up half of the living room :) she

Butterfly garden week 1

reward ministry sports with his little bff/partner in crime, Carson!
He said he likes to "kick the ball the whole entire time" and said "we

Dear Bryson- thank you for such a fantastic day. Really.. We needed it
and I'm so glad that we had this day with some of our favorite peeps!
This was your first time to riverfest and you did soooo good. No
stroller, you started out exausted, but were a trooper all the day
long. Walking from the car to the gate, you said "hey mom. You're the
best". Several times while we were there you said "this is cool.
Thanks for bringing me here". I feel like I am winning an Oscar when
you say things like that. It's like a hey, guess what, you are doing
something right award!

You had so much fun today.. Doing crafts, playing in the sprinklers,
getting your face painted, playing in the jumpy thing, making sand
art, buying a spider man bottle cap necklace, watching the Mike Posner
concert while waiting for the fireworks, and eating lots and lots of
crap! You ate an entire jumbo corndog, choc mint ice cream cone
( your favorite), an icee, a lemonade, and cotton candy! (I was a
little disappointed that you didn't want the funnel cake. Momma loves
a funnel cake lol).

When you were watching the fireworks, you said "I have GOT to call
mema and tell her. This is my favorite part!" sometimes I love you so
much I think maybe my heart might explode. Really. Love you to the
moon and back brysey bear,

for one of my most favoritest people in the world. and to my mom, im sure, even in heaven, her ears still perk up and a smile beams across her cute little each and every time she hears something furry/automated/singing/dancing/songplaying/etc get a'goin.

And because this jarred my memory...a few weeks ago Bryson and I were driving around town in the middle of a miss-my-mom-pity-party-for-one type moment. I drove him past her old house in Brownwood. My stomach sunk with this conversation and made me fall in love with him over and over and over again.. but at the same time makes me wish i could just shelter him from ever having his heart hurt. I was astounded at how this 3-year old child could just "get it".

B: Mommy I want to go to my Nana's house right now. But I think I want to call her Nanny.

M: Baby we cant go to your Nana's house anymore - but you used to go there all the time when you were a baby.

B: But where is she if shes not at home?

M: She's in heaven, remember?

B: Oh, I remember...is she with Jesus?

M: Yup, she's with Jesus.

B: Where is my grandpa Tom..is he in Heaven too with Jesus and my Nanny?

M: [tears streaming] Yes, baby he's there too.

B: I wish I would like to go to Heaven to so that I can see my Nanny and Grandpa Tom. But I dont wish I could go because you would be sad because you wouldnt have me anymore and you would miss me sooo so much.

M: [wow. balling.] oh, honey, hopefully we'll all get to go to Heaven one day, but you're right, I want to keep you here with me for as long as I can because me and your daddy love you so so so very much. I love you big as the sky, you know that?

B: I love you too mommy. I love you little as the tiny sky. Because I'm the littlest.

at nearly midnight, bryson, I thought I'd get a couple of those "dang i really need to write this down" moments out there about Bryson's latest ramblings..and they are a'plenty!

+ "Alsmost": you have said the word "alsmost" for "almost" for probably a year now..since you learned the word. Youre too cute to correct when you say it, so I just dont. youll get the right word eventually, but until you do. this is still adorable. "we better go! were alsmost going to be late!" "I alsmost fell down!" so cute.

+ Today, you told me that you could get Yogi Bear at The Dollar General. I'm pretty sure you've never been in a dollar general store, and not sure exactly how you know about it...but if we go, we will be sure to look for boo boo and yogi. promise.

+ You turn everything into a question, and although its oftentimes tedious, I love that you want to interact at every turn..you'll start saying something and instantly stop and put a "hey mommy, you know what...?"

+ We went to Chili's tonight to eat dinner. On the way home, this was the conversation:

B: Hey mommy and daddy, you know who plays The NFL's?
Daddy: umm..who plays The NFLs?
B: The LSU's. Yup. Theyre going to play on tv tomorrow. You know what teams play on TV? The LSU's and the Razorbacks!
D: Yeah, they do play on tv..how do you know that?
Mommy: Who told you that? Has Ms. Nan been talking about LSU?
B: Nope, just told myself.
M: Hmm.....what else did you tell yourself?
B: That The LSU's are purple and yellow. thats all just those colors there
[Mommy and daddy staring with who-in-the-crap-is-talking-about-LSU-football-to-him-faces]

D: you better come off with the info, whos telling you about LSU?
B: Oh, I just tell myself. thats all I do. But, Christian at school has an LSU t-shirt annnnddd socks! Isn't that cool, daddy??

its a funny thing, that shaving. Seems like one day you're a little tot, playing with thomas the train...and the next day youre a full grown man with old memories.

B and I were in the car the other day and he's talking about his friend Aiden, in his carebear class. So, I ask him - "do you remember Aiden from your other school?" (his first best friend at previous (thank-god-we-escaped) daycare..the rest of the convo went down like this:

B: "You mean the little guy Aiden, the one in the Pooh Bears?"
Mommy: "No, from the other school, hang on let me find his picture". So, I pull up his mom's facebook page and show him the picture..."remember this aiden?"

B: No, I dont know that guy. I guess thats was all before I started shavin' Maybe when I was an itty bitty baby and Carsons the only itty bitty baby I remember".

We went today to brysons thanksgiving feast. He's called it the
"thanksgiving beast" for over a week! Ha! Daddy couldn't get off of
work so paw paw came and we had a great time and a delicious turkey
lunch! Brysons favorite part was the pumpkin pie!

Last week was music week at brysons school! Daddy came to play guitar
for Bryson and all his friends! When I asked Bryson what his friends
said about his dads performance he said "they all loved it! They were
all touching the guitar and playing it and everything! They said jam

wow. you're big. i look at this picture and wish that you would
always want to make cheesy grins through wooden openings..that you
would always want the blue ring pop...and that you'd always have tiny
scratches and dirt under your fingernails...and that you stay just
this way..this little.. forever. (but not when youre throwing a fit at
kroger, though, cause i can do without that) but man how i wish that
you would always have this little gleam of innocence in your eye and
always treasure the simple things in life. sigh. im missing all of
this already.

First...general anesthesia!?

Following his first day of preschool, he also had some other firsts..first dental work, first general anesthesia, first set of tiny little scrubs. Since we started going to the denits, Dr. Derrick told us that both of his bottom back and one of the top back teeth would need to be capped...that something happened when the teeth were erupting that caused complete loss of the enamel on the back of the teeth. Fever..antibiotics..RSV at 6 months (breathing treatments/inhaler use), etc. So..the day had come. Because of his history with respiratory issues, he was put under general anesthesia for the procedure. We arrived at the hospital at 9 am, got checked in, changed into the most adorable little baby scrubs, visited with the nurses, and were in surgery by 10:50 am.

However...before surgery began, let me back track to the goofy-juice (versed) comedy hour...
If youre reading this blog you probably know my ties with Alabama...and that my dad played there under Bear Bryant...and that I am obligated to support The Tide. As my dad would have liked it I am free to support the Razorbacks, unless, of course, theyre playing Alabama. The house is an equal opportunity clothier, so accordingly, Bryson has both Alabama and Arkansas gear and knows the phrases for each. moving on.. As the AlabamaVArkansas game was the following day, several nurses had on Arkansas scrubs and would ask Bryson who he was rooting for...unprompted, he would say, "Ready Alabama!" or "Roll Tide" or sometimes "Go Hogs!" We told the nurse the story of how his Grandpa Tom played there...slowly different people would wander in our room, one of which was a die hard Alabama fan social worker who was pleased to hear that there was an Alabama fan in the house and she had to come meet him.. he thought he was the cats meow with all the attention he was getting... Enter...Versed..or, the "goofy juice".

Within 8 minutes flat, he was wobblier than the town boozer! For my documentations sake...a few of things he said during the short 10-20 minutes he was in the room with us after getting the "goofy juice"...

To the pakistani/iranian/not sure of origin anesthesiologist: "hey hey hey. you need to stop talkin all that Spanish to me. Youre talking like Dora! I dont know anything youre saying to me."

To the surgical nurse who said "looks like someone got their goofy juice!"..Bryson replies, "no sir no sir, I think YOU like a look got YOUR joofy goose!"

To Dr. Derrick the Dentist: "Wheres your car out there? Why will you come here? I think you should not be here."

And best of all, as he was wheeling off to surgery the social worker yelled down the hall, "Roll Tide!" He shot up from laying down on the bed (rolling down the hallway).. GO ALABAMA RAZORBACKS!! And with lazy, wobbly, little drugged arms did a "raise the roof" motion and said "wooooooop wooooooo! Bye mommydaddy! Weeee!"

It took all of maybe 45 minutes to complete. When he woke up from anesthesia he was a complete bear! Yelling, crying, and saying "what did you do to my mouth?? My teeth are all jaggey! Get this (IV) out of my hand! I want to go home! My mouth it hurts!" I wanted to unhook everything right then and there and run as fast as I could to take care of him...We were able to settle him down, get some juice in his belly, and I laid over and patted his back until he went back to sleep....he woke up about 45 to an hour later...like a new kid. Appeased, compliant, and ready to go home.

Because he did so well and was feeling up to it, we went to the gift shop to pick a toy out...after about 45 minutes of searching and investigating everything...he picked a popsicle maker and a pack of silly bands. We went home and he wanted to make the popsicles right then and there, so we did..several sweet friends brought him some "feel better happys"! We took a little nap, watched movies, and ate popsicles. By about 530 that night, he was back to firing on all cylinders and doing great!

First day of preschool!

Finally!! We made it to the Care Bear Room!

Bryson loved his first day of preschool. He ended up starting on Thursday, September 23, 2010. He was very excited and gave me a full tour of all the cool things about the care bear room after the day was over -- his cubby, art supply box, spot at the table, cup of water on his name, etc. All just for Care Bears!

All in all, a great first day! However, n a sad ending to the first day of preschool...I had a meeting that night shortly after I picked Bryson up from school...so, we met up with daddy and went to eat at Chic-Fil-A. Since his first day coincided with toy day, he was able to bring his beloved Baby Jaguar to school that he got from his Aunt Amber for his birthday. He begged to take him in to Chick-Fil-A...unfortunately, Baby Jaguar some how got lost in the nearly-throwing-a-tantrum-because-we-didnt-have-time-to-stay-and-play shuffle. He has never been seen again. :(

Oh to be a Carebear...

So...if you know me at all, you likely know the ridiculous time that we had been having with Bryson at daycare. His teacher in the 3 year old class quit several weeks ago and ever since then, its been like a rollin' boulder of bad behaviors! I won't spend too much time talking about it to save myself reliving the trauma, but it was bad. Anyways, he has been developmentally to move up to the preschool class for some time but the driector of his daycare wanted to find a way for him to earn it. Moving to the Care Bear room is a huge deal! They have a loft...and art supplies...and backpacks! After being sent home for biting, GASP...I KNOW... she mad him a bright orange behavior chart with Friday, and then Monday - Friday. At the bottom it read, "Once Bryson has smiley faces in all the boxes, he can be a CAREBEAR!" Friday was awesome...simply awesome, like out of a cannon ready to go type of awesome! Ahem, Monday..not so much..

Tuesday, however, was fantastic! So much so that when they gave him a smiley face, he said it looked "a little much like a sad face eyes"...so he got a new and improved happy face! See below:

As a reward, we got to go to the costume shop and look for our Halloween Costume...AND got to have a dinner date with mommy at McCalisters! So fun! See Below:

In case you're wondering...Thursday was bad too...although Friday was a toss up. His teacher left without telling the afternoon girl or the director why he got, yet another, sad face. No one knew, and Bryson was pleading the 5th, so they took it off and said mommy and daddy could decide what he would get because it wasnt fair for him to be in trouble for something that no one knew about!

We went back to the drawing board on Monday with a new plan. With Ms. Laura, we came up with a sticker chart...all he had to do was fill 9 stickers wtih good behavior days.. he started with 3 stickers each day ant they were his to lose with bad behaviors...Horray! We completed the chart in 3 days!

Woot Woot! Off to the Care Near Preschool Room!! Finally!!

Nothing like a good ole trip to the mall for me and bryson. We used to
do it regularly (um since birth in the same stroller, only now sans

Mommy: good morning!

B: You're already in your dress? (and while you're thinking it, no,
not an actual dress. Lol that's just what he says to being dressed and
I think it's too cute to correct).

M: Yup, already dressed.

B: Why??

M: because I have to go work.

B: why? Am I going to stay with daddy??

M: no daddys already gone to work. It's time to get you dressed for
school.

B: Ooohh NOOOOO!!

M: oh you thought it was a stay home day??

B: (crying and putting head under pillow on couch) YESS!! i needa go
back to the bed!!

Know that mommy feels ya, little guy. I never could stand mornings
and still thinks all days should begin at 10 am. Im sure my mom is
getting a real chuckle watching me struggle with the little morning
hating spawn every. Single. Morning. Seriously. It's bad. I wait for
his head to start spinning on most days. You know, besides stay home
days. ;)

Soo...were at Las Palmas for dinner the other night and Bryson starts telling this very elaborate story, complete with big hand gestures, and I wish I had it recorded but I'll just have to recreate it for my own little sake of documentation :)

B: wow did you see all that mess?

Me:: what mess?

B: me and my bruuuuther (yes, that way) we just came in..annndd...tore the whole table up! We turned over the cheese dip.. and spill all the the chips...and the taco. Yup, yup thats what me and my brother did. He is so silly and he is gonna get in biiiiiggg troubles.

Me: Hmm..that sounds pretty messy - and yes you would get in trouble! I didn't know you had a brother.

B: Yup. Me and my brother make big ole messes. We just come in...and make a mess!

Me: Wow. So, whats your brothers name? I dont think I've ever met him.

B: ummmm...my brothers name is Augen. Yup. Augen. Thats his name.

Me: hmm. Since I've never met your brother..do you have a sister too?

B: Yup.

Me: What's her name?

So, I didn't ask permission from her to post this - and thought about not...but I want to so I can have it forever with a nifty little date stamp in my blog as to where I am in my crazy little life. My moms best friend Gail sent me this around Easter with the lead in "I don't want to make you cry but I have to tell you a dream I had...."

"we were over at your mom and dad's house in Benton and your mom walked up to me. I started crying when I saw her. I told her how much she would have enjoyed being with Bryson and watching him grow up...and with the biggest smile on her face she said, 'Oh Gail - you don't understand, I AM spending every day with him and I AM watching him grow up!" and then she gave me all the latest pictures of him, must have been 10 pictures in all. Your dad was all smiles too....he and Jim were talking golf".

Better pictures to follow, but Bryson had his third birthday party today at The Little Gym! The day started out in the doctor's office (respiratory infection)...but he and his guests had a blast!

Since he had to go to the dr's office on the day of his birthday, he got to take his new Diego Rescue Pack. He took care of baby jaguar's hurt foot, and listened to his chest like the Dr. did to him. He even found some reeces pieces in his backpack, and decided to share with baby jaguar...well, pretend to and then snag them up for himself! Cute nonetheless!

After falling asleep on the way home, we met up with Aunt Stacey and Bryson's cousin, Juleanna. They had a good visit and had so much fun playing and hanging out outside! She's doing so well!

We had a great day and played hard with all of our new birthday presents..and ended the day with a Nemo puzzle! Thanks to everyone who helped make Bryson's day special!

three years down

dear bryson,

sooo....its been three whole years, and in true karlyn style lately, Ive procrastinated writing to you and telling you about all the fantastic things that youve been doing. I dont know whats all been up with me lately that Ive just let this blog get put off. Ill get better, i promise. Anyways, hopefully you'll forgive me :)

You passed the big "number 3" on March 19, 2010. It was a great morning. Mommy and Daddy were there with you in the morning and took your picture with your cupcakes that you were to take to school and watched you open your birthday card from mema. She sent you $3, one for each year, which you thought was fantastic. Before you opened it you said "Lets see whats inside!" and you tried to be all delicate, then just ripped it into pieces. You screamed out "Moneys!! I've got to put it in my bank!" you studied the tiger card, which I told mema would be perfect for you! You love getting mail..you'll say "is there something in there for brysonjay?" Sometimes I'll give you junk mail or postcards, and you call them your "tickets" and you take them with you everywhere.

I hope youre always a good saver, but dont save so much that youre a stick-in-the-mud. :) Always save some for fun-days! You had a blue Diego ribbon to wear to school, which was quickly torn off your shirt...but you carried it around with you all day! All of your friends were eager to see the cupcakes and about mauled daddy over to get to them. You were certainly showing off and excited for both of us to walk you into school. Daddy usually leaves for work before the sun comes up, so this was a big treat! Your Papaw picked you up from school that day, and you got to have a sleep over at grandma and papaws house! When he asked you about your cupcake party, you told him "Papaw - you HAVE to take off the paper!" Apparently, there was a little confusion at school but glad you got everyone all straightened out. Papaw said your little ribbon was tattered, dirty, and all roughed up when it came home...but you never let it leave your sight.

Mom and Dad missed you and knew that you were having a BLAST at Papaw and Grandmas! Aunt Amber and Uncle Joshie came out to see you too! Mommy and Daddy called into check with you and wish you happy birthday again. We had a little "getaway" to Memphis to see John Mayer in concert. We were chop liver compared to a night at Papaw's anyways. lol. We had a great time and had some much needed time alone just to regroup and reconnect with each other but missed you terribly! We were very excited to see you the next day!

The weather has been nicer lately. I always dread summer here..its so frickin' hot and I can't stand it. I've been pestering dad to have the back porch covered so I dont die of heat exhaustion this summer watching you play. seriously, its straight sun. you melt as soon as you touch the concrete. Anyways, with the better weather we've been spending some time out in the park, playing outside, etc. You LOVE the park. You're so excited with anything new. You rode your first tire swing a couple weeks ago, and it was the sweetest, most genuine belly chuckle Ive heard from you in a while

I hope you never lose that laugh. It truly is the one thing that warms my heart every time. I'd go to the ends of the earth every day if it meant that you would always find such fun and humor in life. Theres so much negativity and crap in the world, Bryson, and I hope that you're always that kid and adult that can laugh it off. You're head strong, active, and full of life. You love going and doing and seeing new things and new people and I cherish that about you. Some other things that I love about where you are in your life right now.....

You love your daddy. You want to be just like him and want him to do everything with you. right now you are LOVING playing basketball, and want your daddy to play with you every night. He loves it too. Although he doesnt like it when the ball gets wet in the grass and you ask for a paper towel. He wants you to buck up and dry it on your shirt if it deems necessary. Hes learning patience. And limits. Youre teaching us so much with each passing day. Youre daddy picked out these shirts for yall at Old Navy. You have matching Michagin ones too. They're dad's favorite teams, and I think its adorable that he wants to look like you as much as you want to look like him.

>Ahh..."the bus" This was your Valentine's Gift this year, and you love it. You even love it when Sophie gets in it. You crack up at her when she gets in it and makes it move. You say "Silly Sophie!" Youve made everyone get in it a time or two. At the end of the day you throw most of your toys into it like a giant toy box. I've also found 3 pair of my shoes and a pink dum-dumsucker in there.

You and mommy recently had a date and went to see "ferdinand" at the local children's theater. You were so cute and held my hand the whole time. We bought our tickets, and you handed yours to the ticket-taker like such a big guy. You sat in your chair anticipating what was going to happen. You looked at the program and were so excited to be in the big theater and hanging out with your mommy. You were on your best behavior.
You loved the beginning of the show, and smiled, and clapped when appropriate. About 45 minutes in, though, the show got louder and you looked up at me and said "this is kinda scary. i think its time to go home". You sat on my lap, and we decided that maybe we could go potty, get a snack, and come back in and try again. So, we went potty and went out to the car and got the half-eaten blueberry muffin from earlier in the day. It was a gorgeous day, and you ate it outside by the fountains and watched the ducks play. You tried to pet one, and it snapped at you. you laughed. I asked you if you wanted to go back in to see the rest of the play. You said "no, we need to go home now. maybe ill try another movie another day". We passed Verizon Arena on the way home and you say the ad for Disney on Ice...and said "hey theres a show I'll like! Id like a show with Mickey Mouse!" I'll see what I can do, little fella. So to end our date we went to have cheese dip and salsa with Katlee and Ms. Leesa, two of your favorite peeps. We had a great day though and I loved hanging out with just us. I hope we have countless days like that one.

Another thing I'm lovin' about you is your lovin' to read! You're very, very, smart and have an excellent memory. We can read a book one time and you remember the words, and can read it back to me or fill in 3-4 words of a sentence. Right now you love a Dora and Diego book and youre so cute when they are talking to a dolphin and you put your hands on your face and say "click click". You make sure that everyone else in the room participates. We're also reading a story right now called "I love my mama". Its about a mama and baby elephant. You know every word. when it talks about drying off in the warm sun, you say "I dont like the sun! It makes my eyes hurt!"

As far as other things that youre doing, you know, for documentation sake.....

You can count to 20...and up to about 10 in spanish... thanks Dora!

You know all your colors, and your favorite color is still Orange. I'm pretty sure its been orange for quite a while now.

You know your whole name, and can spell your first and last name.

You recognize all the letters in the alphabet, and all your numbers

You know your full address, and recognize your city and state whenever you see it somewhere. You also know your birthday. We're having your birthday party this weekend and you are very excited about "the party day!"

You are becoming very good with cause-effect and logical thinking. You aren't easily fooled anymore. I tried the whole "we're out of water" the other night when you wanted some more in your cup in bed. You yelled from your bed, "no were not. just turn on the faucet, it will come out!"

You like to say "save money. live better. wal-mart!". you did this one time while we were in wal-mart and it cracked me up. i recorded it on my phone it was so funny. you overhear everything!

Your vocabulary is still out-of-this world. Ive always read books to you, any sort of book. Most are well above your level, but you like them and are really good at remembering them and reciting it after I read it. You're really good at listening to sounds in words and reciting them just as said. There are very few things that you say incorrectly. You have good grammar.

You LOVE to eat outside. You're your mamma's baby....lol, it sometimes wears your dad out that we always want to be on the go and doing something, or hanging outside, but I love it. I'm seeing mucho picnics in your future. You love to go..go anywhere. you love to go to the store, shopping, out to eat, anywhere. You just love to be busy and be looking at new things and i cherish that about you.

You potty trained in like a week. We still have accidents occasionally, but you can go to the bathroom all by yourself, flush, wash, and dry your hands. You still have trouble with poops in the toilet but thats to be expected. Youre so proud when you go and like to alert everyone in the house that you've gone. I like it when you clap your hands and are proud of yourself. Then you ask for a special treat. ;) When you go peepee, you pull your pants down, tuck your shirt under your chin, and hold the back of the toilet and lean forward so it goes in the bowl. Trust me, I took a picture of it, but you'd probably kill me in a few years if I posted it here. :)

You love to get out of the house and go places. You still love going to "the popcorn store". Ive called it Target a few times...and thank goodness, you corrected me as to its official name. We get popcorn and a slush and wander through the isles. I love this time with you.

You have this hilarious little voice where you say "I need some more candy". I'm pretty sure that you got it from your dad, talking like Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hungar Force on Adult Swim. I hope that he wasnt letting you watch it, its funny as crap, but not appropriate for you yet :) Your favorite cartoons though are SuperHero Squad, Diego, Backyardigans, and all the other usual suspects of Nick Jr. and Disney. You also still like the Imagination Movers and can sing the entire song. its cute.

You can jump straight forward like nobody's business. I measured it one day and it was something like 39 inches. I looked it up online and you're suppose to be able to jump flat footed forward like 12-18 inches. I measured you too, and you could jump farther than you are tall, and land on two feet, and not wabble. I think you'll be good in sports. But your dad cant stand soccer, so if you choose soccer, break him into the idea easy. We'll revisit this at some time, I'm sure.

lol, you still say that everything "costs 80 dollars". i dont know where you got that, but you've been saying it for at least a year. "thats about 80 dollars" "thats at the 80 dollar store". its funny, and still around. ill miss it when you really get a concept of money.

you love cheese dip and salsa. You also love mac and cheese, yogurt drinks, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, green beans, black eyed peas, carrots, and all fruits. You gravitate to fruits and veggies and arent much on meats. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree, lol. Then again, since I don't really know how to cook much red meat since I dont eat it, it makes sense.

Speaking of....You love music. love love love music. Consistent with your favorite veggies, youre favorite thing to sing is "the black eyed peas". yeah yeah i know. real toddler-ish. but I dont let you hear the bad words and you love it. you can sing all the songs. your favorite ones are the "im'll be song" and "the goodnight song". you know the kind of music daddy likes (metal) and if you hear it and dads not in the car, youre quick to say "this is what daddy likes. you dont like it. turn the im'll be song on! make it louder so i can sing it!" its the cutest thing ever hearing you sing...and i hope you always do. i hope you always sing as loud as you can in the car. and i hope you never care if people like it or not.

However, a time that I least love with you is mornings. You are a complete and utter bear. You hate to get up out of bed and are like a different kid. You yell "You leave me alone!" "I need to stay in bed with my guys!" Just for the record, these are your guys (hanging out on the toybox, but rest assured they are in the bed every. single. night. You make sure they're all accounted for underneath "the rocketship" If I could change anything, it'd be mornings. We're late everyday and getting you in clothes and out the door without a fight is a MAJOR event. I'm going to have my work cut out for me as you age. But, when we're in the car and youre singing a song and eating chocolate chip waffles out of a plastic baggie, somehow or another it wipes the slate clean.

Bryson, I want you to know that it's been a joy being your mommy. You are wild, spirited, sometimes dramatic, rough-and-tumble, loving, silly little boy and I love every ounce of you. from your nose to your toes i love you. You've got droves of people who genuinely love you and I hope that you always keep them close. They will always care for you and provide you with anything that you need. I hope that you find special friends and always understand their value. Know that your friends truly are family that you get to choose, and can be as strong as blood ties, so never take that for granted. They say "it takes a village" to raise a baby. I don't know who "they" are, but I'm seeing how true "they" are and know that you will benefit exponentially by all the special friends and family that your dad and I have trusted to love you. You are loving, accepting, and carefree and I hope you always will be no matter what life throws at you through your years. I plan on taking you places and letting you see, touch, smell, and feel the world first hand. I will do everything I can to ensure that you keep the same zeal for life and experiences that you have now, because it's so endearing and special about you. You are fearless. Bryson is sooo into basketball these days and his mema got him a new
basketball goal! He loves to play and is actually doing pretty good!
He's a great jumper and loves to dribble the ball around!

Our little bear is getting so grown up! It's also worth a mention that
he's pretty well potty trained! Horray!
